there is little more inspiring, encouraging, hopeful and charming in the handmaking world to me then the fresh crisp blank pages of a new journal. the endless possibilities of what lies ahead THRILL me!
you know the feeling: no limits on what you can write, think, do, create, draw, concoct or hope with a beautiful new handbound book.
the lovely folks over at the Rag & Bone Bindery know this joy oh so well! located in Rhode Island, Rag & Bone Bindery creates photo albums, journals, guest books, baby books, and other fine bindings distinguished by their craftsmanship and enduring beauty. they've been creating handbound books since 1991 in their Bookbinding Studios, and their delightful work can be found across the US in fine galleries, stationery stores and the loveliest boutiques!
and if you were to judge a book by it's cover, then i know your judgement of these books would be *fantastic!* *stunningly beautiful!* and *WOW!* as you take a look at their cover options.
aren't they fabulous?
it`s gloriously impossible to choose which styles and covers and designs i love best! they're all so marvelous!
from there you can decide on the style of book you'd like. founder Jason Thompson writes about the art & craft of of bookbinding: "The first ever handbound book I can remember holding in my hands was the book given to me by Ilira, my then girlfriend (And now wife!), for my 23rd birthday. It's a book she made completely by hand with materials and tools available at local art stores. She even marbleized her own paper - how cool is that? I was impressed by the complexity and simplicity of the book and I decided to venture to learn this 'lost art' of bookbinding myself."
so why not visit the beautiful beautiful Rag & Bone shop yourself. enjoy their lovely blog. follow their bindery insights on twitter and facebook ... and best of all... read on to see how you can WIN a handmade journal for yourself!

think it's possible to be in LOVE with a blank book?
me too! *sigh*
now try to regain your composure (i know - they're gorgeous!)...
because ... one lucky rikrak studio reader can WIN...
an Oyster cover Rag & Bone Journal.
an Oyster cover Rag & Bone Journal.
please note:
the prize is one handmade journal in cover *oyster* as seen in the 1st photo below. however, the binding shown in photo 1 differs from the binding on the journal the winner will receive. the inside of the journal will resemble the pages in photo 2 below. thanks!
Jason writes about the prize: This is a 6 x 9, handbound journal in *Oyster* with deckle edged, bright white pages was the first book I began selling as Rag & Bone Bindery almost 18 years ago. Today, the journals are made in the exact same way as we made them back then: hand cut pages, beautiful covers and a "scritchy-scratchy" paper that's not too thick, not too soft and just right for ink, pencil & pen.

ReplyDeleteOh my word! These are beautiful. My absolute fave is the paper page album; I scrapbook and it would be just perfect for a really special album for my daughter who'll be starting uni in the autumn. The butterfly cover literally took my breath away; it's sublime.
