happy tv mini pillow by mymimi
....................................

don't you just love a slumber party? comfy pjs, silly movies, telling your friends, old & new, your thoughts & crushes & dreams.... such fun! join us! you can catchup with some of our other slumber party fun here: and for today's party question: who are your top 3 TOPSECRET tv crushes?

....................................

good-golly, nicies.
it's been a fabulous 3 YEARS since our first rikrak studio slumber party! in honour: let's celebrate with a redo of our very first get-to-know-you-all-nighter-of-a-question. my current obsessions have changed a wee bit. i'd love to hear yours! in 2009 i confessed my tv crushes: the professor from gilligan's island; & george stroumboulopoulos. here's this year's updated version....

.......

i must admit, i'm not such a tv watcher. but over the years, i have had a few spurts of tv - ing - fun! they heyday for my tv watching was really when i was in my preteens. there were a variety of great 1960's and 70's reruns on in that era, that were right up my good-n'-wholesome alley!
and so...
one of my first tv crushes was was born...

crush #1: that dashing pioneer = pa.
(a.k.a charles ingalls played by michael landon on *little house on the prairie*)

okay - i know it sounds a tad improbable. he was a little wee bit (ahem...) older than me. but what a loveable guy that pa was! charming smile. devoted dad. all-around-nicey. great log-house-builder. oh-so-settlers-era-crushable. i was smitten. (and i must confess - we borrowed a couple of little house on the prairie episodes to show little rikrak recently, and my love of charles ingalls hasn't faded! sigh. who's with me, pioneer-lovers!?!

............

fast forward to the mid-80's ... tv crush #2.... *sigh* ... remington steele (pierce brosnan) ... to be honest.. i don't think i ever really saw this show about a former conman turned detectivey guy, as a youngin'. (surely i wouldn't have been allowed! it still seems so wonderfully racy!)

but i do recall a glorious full-sized poster of remington steele that my very cool babysitter had up in her bedroom... and i was hooked! everytime i would be @ her place, i would just stare and stare...
crush #2: is it wrong to have a crush on a poster?

i could just tell from that photo... we should BE together!
he was so dashing, so debonair, so clever and with such spy-ly intelligence! that's tv crush #2.
............

oh deary me.
charles ingalls wouldn't be too happy to hear that more recently i've fallen for ...

crush #3: baddy idris elba

i'm thinking this must be more of a pretend-person tv crush, than an actual tv character crush (eek! cause elba's *stringer bell* on the wire sure wasn't such a nice guy!). but at least this one is post-1987!

idris elba plays all kinds of rotten.
& yes... it makes him oh-so-SWOONworthy!

so there's my 3 not-so-secret tv crushes.
let's snuggle into our cozy sleeping bags, open another bag of sour cream & onion chips,
turn on some cyndi lauper, giggle & whisper and hear yours!

et tu?

hope it's a lovely day, cutiepies!

so i had a crush on a magical mannequin....

..............

once upon a time i had a crush on a mannequin.
it was an early childhood kinda crush.
on a mannequin who magically turned into a man when the store closed at night.
did you love jeff from that tv classic "today's special" too?

i mean, c'mon - what was there not to love?

he could sing and dance
boy - could he sing and dance!

and he was so kindly and all.

*sigh*
i confess this today because  TVO, a publicly-funded education broadcast station here in ontario (something of a provincial PBS) , is turning 40 this year. in my humble opinion, 40 fabulous years of the BEST in kids' educational entertainment (back in my day it was polka dot door and today's special!) , amazingly pioneering first-person documentaries, wonderful public affairs shows highlighting critical debates in our province, some of my favourite artistic and political interviews over the years, and oh so much more (like crushable MANnequin's!) ... most of which are now available in their fabulous online archive for free.

these days, i'd also recommended their fabulously fun tvokids webite, filled with over 160+ educational-ish free games for all ages ... lots of great creative arts ones....(and yay - they're  NOT violent! ) AND i love how TVO actively helps kids deal with real-life worries: interactive programs on school-yard bullying, spaces to THINK about and discuss the stresses of life and school for the under 12 age-group, the hi's and low's of pre-teen daily LIFE!

little rikrak and i give it a BIG thumbs up!

so happy birthday, TVO! you're wonderful!
here's to THOUGHTFUL programming for all ages.

what was your favourite kids show growing up?
any mannequin crushes?

slumber party { part 16 } : who are your sporty crushes?

....................................

don't you just love a slumber party? comfy pjs, silly movies, telling your friends, old & new, your thoughts & crushes & dreams.... such fun! join us! you can catchup with some of our other slumber party fun here: and for today's party question: who are your sporty crushes?

....................................

these days it's home openers for Major League Baseball (go jays!) , an eye toward the National Hockey League playoffs, readying for the National Basketball Association finals, and sign-up time for every fun spring and summer sport around for the kiddies.

so i ask, dear cuties... who are your sporty crushes?
you know, your secret loves from the athletic world?

i'll confess first....

 ....................

   tom brady

i know nothing, absolutely NOTHING about american style football.
i think i've watched one whole game in my life.
but i sure do think that tom brady's cute!

i love his fun clothing style, that great smile.
oh and did i mention that smile?
heavens.

thanks for letting us borrow him gisele.

 ....................

   jesse barfield

back in the day, there was no athlete i crushed on more then that smiley cutie jesse barfield. great player, nice guy.  circa 1985,when i just started to be gaga for the toronto blue jays baseball team, i'm pretty sure there are dozens of diary pages, where i practiced my upcoming married moniker: mrs. kristal davis-barfield.

has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

....................

   roberto mancini

is it wrong to have a crush on a whole group of folks? like say *any professional football (aka soccer) league coach who wears scarves and looks tremendously dashing?*

right.
during the 2010 world cup i came to realize that i had a sports crush on pretty much every major footballing team's stylish coach! wow. those suits? those fabulous scarves? (you know how i love a man in a scarf!) ... i ask: how can fans concentrate on the games?

if i must choose just one i'll go with roberto mancini., current manager of the Manchester City team. he's such a cutie (and not quite so controversial as that other coaching cutie: jose mourinho!)

..................

okay! so i've confessed!
there are my choices for top 3 sports crushes! now... let's snuggle into our cozy sleeping bags, open another bag of sour cream & onion chips, crank up queen's *we are the champions!* , giggle & whisper and hear yours! can't wait!
your turn!
