thanks for all of the lovely welcomes to the world of blogging, sweeties! so i thought i'd start things off with the first in a little series on some of my favourite things. i have always loved the idea of maria vontrapp's *my favourite things* list in song, and love hearing folks' very own charming choices of favourite collections! overtime, i hope to invite folks to share their own *favourite* things here. i thought i'd start off with one of my favourite collections: teapots.
i must admit... i'm a bit teapot crazy. teapots themselves. images of teapots. having teapot parties, etc, etc! i'm fortunate to have a lovely little collection of beautiful teapots, from various fabulous folks, from around the world, some handmade, some vintage, and each with their own amazing tale! one of very faves is this beautiful japanese vintage pot. it belonged to my wonderful maternal grandparents. i love it for it's beautiful colours, those gorgeous designs, the perfect shape of the pot, and most of all, because it was theirs! and i cherish all the teaparties we've had over the years, usually with fancy bone china teacups from their lovely collection!
another favourite is this gorgeous cast iron Iwachu pot, in deep brown. it was a beloved wedding gift a few years back from our dear friend a. (whom i've enjoyed many a glorious teaparty with!) the weight and design of these pots are fantastic. it makes me pour slowly & carefully and relax when tea-ing! so lovely!
one more teapot i'll share is this beautiful handmade vessel by our friend & potter, carol froimovitch. another wonderful gift, i just adore the colours and the glazing. carol is a true master potter, and while we're lucky to have many amazing teapots, this has become one of our daily favourites. it's functionally perfect for my teapartying needs, and pours without a drop! i love that in a teapot!
so those are some of my own favourites from my home. i thought i'd browse and find a few more favourites, that aren't (yet!) mine :)

You have a beautiful collection, rikrak! I love teapots, too. I also have a crazy collection of smurfs! HA! I know - crazy!
ReplyDeleteMY favorite teapot is from my sister. SHe was lucky and was able to travel to Hong Kong and then Mainland China. SHe brought back a little stone teapot. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI also have a great dripless teapot made by a local potter. They are the best!
ReplyDeleteWe have a teeny-tiny antique china teapot that was found in the bottom of a box lot from an auction. It's only about an inch tall.
I love tea and teapots :) Esp. with one or two biscotti, yum! Unfortunately, my own teapot was broken in while cleaning it :(
ReplyDeleteI have a big TEA collection!!! I love my little yellow Japanese tea pot- i got it at a garage sale this summer, its got a bamboo handle and 2 bright yellow cups!!!
ReplyDeleteloose tea rocks!
I'd love these!
ReplyDeleteDripless is such a necessity! I can't stand having to use any of those little devices on the spout to catch the drips! I have a growing collection of kaleidoscopes--one day I'd love to learn to take photographs through them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute collection of teapots. My favorite teapot is one that a dear friend who had lived in Japan gave to us. As for me, I collect photography. Framing is a costly endeavor at our house!
ReplyDeleteI love teapots too!! I have many of them - my favorite is a vintage elephant one.

I love tea, and teapots make the beverage into a mini celebration!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite teapot is one my best friend picked up for me on her way home from England. It is a cream pottery teapot with bright polka dots all over. It makes me smile :)

Great post, Rikrak! Love the new blog!!! My favourite is a beautiful blue teapot that was my Aunt's. I love the floral pattern - and even have tiny cups to match. Mostly, though, my sister and I love collecting pretty old bottles! We have OVER 200 now!!
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful collection! I love bright and sunny teapots - my mom has a bunch of fantatic ones from the 60's! You'd love them, RikRak!

I also adore teapots and have a nice collection. ( I should take some pics) My fav is a curvy, white number with a lovely moss rose pattern. It was actually my first and the beginning of a happy obsession. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't collect teapots, but I do have a favorite one. My sister bought it for me in Paris, from a Senegalese store that sells tin utensils. It's red and has little blueish flowers drawn on it. She has the exact same one, but hers has lost the cover, so she's using it as a pot for plants, which is lovely too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for holding this giveaway!

ReplyDeletei have a very pretty oriental looking one with a rattan handle thanks for the giveaway of the lovely coasters
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of hot tea being that I'm a southern girl, but teapots are one of my favorite things to doodle!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite teapot is one that my Grandmother brought with her from Ireland more than 80 years ago. I'm lucky enough to use it and think of her every day.

A big blue teapot is what I use to stand all my wooden spoons in ... I'm partial to various pottery mugs and cups for my daily cuppa. These pots are all beautiful.

I don't have a favorite teapot, but one of my favorite teacups is just a plain and simple vintage clear glass cup. I love dunking the tea bag in it and watching the water turn color!

what a great collection of teapots, rikrak!
ReplyDeletemy favourite is still a pottery teapot made in grade 11 - the Cat in the Hat. One arm akimbo was the handle, while the other held up with the hand out was the spout. His hat and head were the lid. my teacher convinced me to enter it in a teapot art show and sale, where it won first prize.
because i wanted to keep it, i set the price really high...i thought...at $125.00. sad to say, it was the first teapot from the show to sell. alas! :-(
I dont have a favorite tea pot BUT my favorite tea cups are from my grandmas collection of Royal Albert Val Dor China. Grandma always stated one must drink tea from a tea cup, not a coffee mug
ReplyDeleteWe love to use the beautiful teapots from the Chinese grocery store. We recently retired one after three years of service. It had been knocked about so much that the spout was virtually unrecognizable and not so very functional.
ReplyDeleteI have 1 teapot. It is fire engine red and has a big chip on one side. I think it is beautiful so it always sits on top of my stove.
ReplyDeleteAs for my collection, I collect Pepsi memorabilia mostly because I love the color combination.
You've collected some of the loveliest teapots out there!
ReplyDeleteButtons are a recent collection/obsession object for me :)
i have a wee brown teapot with a wicket handle, so cute but my coffee press is my fave. I collect eggs
ReplyDeleteThose are very pretty teapots you have! I don't collect pots, but I do have an old collection of seashells that I've been adding to since childhood.
ReplyDeleteI received an teapot when I was 10 from my grandmother after she died and I have never used it its more an prized possesion. I collect postcards from everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWonderful teapots!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I collect vintage super 8 cameras :)
When I was a little girl I made my mom a clay teapot. She loved it and little did I know but she held onto it and still has it after all these years! One day she is going to give it back to me to put in my china hutch and I will be able to pass it on to my little girls :)

there is something about tea pots- so cute! I especially love Japanese tea sets with their amazing glazes! I could be tempted to start collecting those.....
ReplyDeleteI do love tea! I still have a little tea set that my Grand parents brought my Mum when she was small. It's just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm don't really collect anything in particular, just crazy about adding to my craft supplies and spending far to much money on buttons and findings!
I love teapots. The other day I went to a small cafe that was all decked out in teapots. It was so cute!
ReplyDeleteI don't collect teapots, but I do collect postcards from places I've been.
ReplyDeletekimspam66(at)yahoo(dot)com
I don't have a lovely teapot. Ours is a hideous stainless steel and it's broken! It's workable, but still, an eyesore. I used to have a lovely teapot set I bought in Chinatown. I wonder what happened to it....
ReplyDeleteLovely blog!
I dont collect teapots but my fave one is one that I received as a wedding gift over 11 years ago...bright blue and big...makes like 8 cups!!! I would love this giveaway! aandsrempel@yahoo.ca
ReplyDeleteI too have a fav teapot. It's cast iron with a gorgeous dark lime matte finish. For some reason it makes having a cup of tea an event. After dinner, some spoonfuls of dried tea leaves (my favourite with bits of rose petals and dried berries) and boiling water and it's dessert in a cup. mmm....
ReplyDeleteI love to browse your etsy shop. Those are lovely teapots. As a little girl I collected stickers and small ceramic animals. All grown up I collect nativity scenes. I have six so far. and bags. I sure do have a lot of bags. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a special teapot my mom bought me years ago of a princess. I don't use it because it's so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI am not a tea drinker, however I still have a collection of those little figurines that came with tea bags when I was a kid - showing my age!!
ReplyDeleteI love tea! me and my dad collect teapots together. Weh usually find old ones from an antique shop or a neighborhood sale. My favorite one is in a shape of a cafe shop its pretty and I have another one that is small and navy blue with a sort of modern art music design.

I never drank tea until I met my hubby:) Now I actually enjoy a dutch tea. It's the only tea I really like. With sugar, hold the milk. I think that was always my problem before. Everytime I had tea it was the norm in my family to put milk in it. blech. So now I'll enjoy a nice cuppa more often then not and certainly when I'm sick. We don't have a fancy tea pot, just a white one that DH acquired before moving out of his parents house:)
ReplyDeleteI love teapots, too! I am starting a collection of them. :D
ReplyDeletelovely, lovely little collection! i love the knitted set for playtime. so sweet!
ReplyDeleteMy mom's country cottage teapot.
ReplyDeletethanks so much for all of the fabulous, intreguing, and wonderfully told entries! i've loved them! off to have the winner selected. thanks!
ReplyDeleteOf course I'm too late to enter... but that's OK, I'm more a coffee person anyway! Nice post, Kristal! :)
ReplyDeleteI have a HUGE collection of teacups & saucers...I do have a few teapots..but could always use more teapots to even out my cup & saucer collection :o)
ReplyDeletesallylynnsara@hotmail.com
I love the crocheted tea set! It's darling! I am actually currently trying to build up a collection of tea cups and saucers. Also, I'm trying to build up a collection of demitasse (or espresso) cups (:
