ah... i love great duos!
like chocolate & peanut butter.
superman & wonderwoman!
like a mommy & her child.
Rebecca of the beautiful handmade boutique BananaSaurusRex caters to this latter pairing just perfectly: her beautiful shop is filled with gorgeous goodies for both eco-forward kiddies and their sustainably minded mommies.
i've been a longtime fan of BananaSaurusRex's wonderful textile work {back before i'd joined Etsy, i know... i know ... eons ago! ... when my intro to the cybercraft world was thru flickr!} .... and i love the way she showcases beautiful fabric patterns in her work for home, office, park, play, school and more! she's also crafted a fabulous tutorial to make with the kiddies! hope you'll enjoy it below! it's lovely!
i think this quote sums up my feelings perfectly: "BananaSaurus Rex features astonishingly beautiful things for post-modern bohemian Mamas and their retro-stylish offspring — made of amazing vintage recycled and other rescued materials. I'm so excited, aren't you?"
yep!
i always am with BananaSaurusRex!
so visit her gorgeous shop here, follow her lovely blog here, and read on to see how you can WIN some of her beautiful textile works!
...................................
1.
You'll need.... lightweight paper - we're using newspaper and some leftover white tissue watercolor paint and brushes
scissors
stapler
2.
Fold a page of the newspaper the long way and paint it with watercolor paint. You could also use crayon or pencils to add color to your newspaper - I like that the watercolor allows the type to show through. Paint in any pattern you like - I made stripes.
3.
Dry
4.
Fold newspaper the long way again. Fold tissue to the same size as the newspaper and tuck inside so that the folded edge of the tissue is in the folded edge of the newspaper.
5.
Staple along the open edge of the paper.
6.
Make a series of cuts along the folded edge of the paper, perpendicular to the fold, making the cuts about 1/3 inch apart, and stopping about an inch away from the stapled edge. Your kid will totally understand that. I know mine did.
7 & 8.
Roll the paper, stapling as you go.
9.
Viola! Recycled Newspaper Flowers! Beautiful! You can finish them with some green paper leaves or decorate a gift or make a festive garland - Whatever you want!
10.
We're hanging ours from the ceiling!

thanks so much, rebecca! love that tutorial!

about the prize! "Go GREEN in style! These RE-usable Snack Baggies are a super-cute and eco-friendly alternative to those expensive plastic bags! Save some cash and the planet at the same time.
"And they're so simple! Just pop your sandwiches or snacks inside, and roll the flap over the top. (Like those plastic bags we used to use before the zip-top ones were invented. If you're too young to remember those, bless you - you'll figure it out.)
The lining is water-resistant nylon - damp grapes will be fine, soup will not. There's no Velcro to catch crumbs, so clean-up is easy too!"
* All overlock-stitched, no raw edges
* Size: the Large Baggie is 7 x 7 inches, Small is 5 x 5 inches
* Materials: cotton outside, water-resistant nylon inside
* Care: Wipe out with a sponge and air dry or machine wash and dry, don’t be silly.

ReplyDeleteThe mamagotomarket bag April is really cute. The colours are great and I love the design and different fabrics.
Following BananaSaurus Rex blog!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I posted in the Etsy thread about handmade kid's item.
ReplyDeleteI love the mama go to market bag - with the spicy and sweet colour palette inspired by August. However I already have so many cloth reusable bags.
ReplyDeleteWhat I need are some of those reuseable snack bags - time to get rid of some of the other plastic in my house (and if I'm being totally honest we use way too much paper towel still)
my favourite thing to handmake with children - I have an 18 month at home and we haven't made a lot together yet other than play dough sculptures and crayon drawings but we have worked side by side on some projects and she has certainly tried to help. I think the project she most enjoyed was the wet felting - she loves to squeeze things and play with water. We made some great wet felted balls and some little critters.
ReplyDeleteI now follow the BananaSaurus Rex blog

Oh la la lavender! How cute are those!
ReplyDeleteAnd I just locke the reusable snack bag idea. How handy with kids! I have a 16 month old and already used countless plastic bags for his snacks... I'm not exceptionally eco-friendly, but this is something really good to do! Plu, they are beautiful!
My little one is still too little for crafting projects (I guess??). But I already dream about making cardboard houses with him, salt dough pastry, using all my postage inspired stamps to play postman, and so many more things! I'm sure we won't run out of ideas!
