warm + cozy sweaters.
beautiful foliage.
gorgeous new handmade collections launching.
and apples apples everywhere.
so i'm especially delighted to have the talented jewelry artist sara thomas with us today, sharing both a yummy apple pie oatmeal DIY recipe + offering a beautiful autumnal giveaway from her simply gorgeous fall 2010 jewelry collection! you're gonna love it!
sara writes: i made up this recipe a couple of years ago. i love fall and always have lots of apples because my uncle is an apple farmer. when the weather starts to get cooler, i want a yummy hot breakfast that will keep my full! oatmeal is so healthy and it's not hard to make the "real" kind yummy so you dont have to eat the processed instant stuff!
:: apple pie oatmeal ::
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup rolled oats (organic if possible)
1 small apple, peeled and chopped
3 Tb. (real!) maple syrup- you could also use turbinado or brown sugar
1 Tb. butter
1 tsp cinnamon
nutmeg to taste
1/4 cup milk
Bring water, oats and apples to a boil over med. heat uncovered. Stir frequently to avoid burning! Once water has been soaked up and oats are cooked, remove from heat. Add the maple syrup, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and milk and stir until mixed through.
..............
good golly - that sounds delicious, sara! thanks so much!
and just as delectable is her beautiful work as an eco-friendly jewelry artist!
i just love sara's new fall 2010 collection: inspired by nature, capturing the hues and feel and emotions of our delightful new season! the pieces are unique, charming, engaging, inspiring, & wonderful - just like sara herself!

an autumn bird's nest necklace
{valued @ $33.00}
designed by sara thomas
sara writes about the piece: This unique and gorgeous necklace features a rustic bird's nest made of pure copper and glittery gold stone eggs. Gold stone is truly beautiful, flecked with golden sparkles throughout its cinnamon-colored finish. The nest is oxidized to a chocolate brown, finished by hand with a fine steel wool to achieve a weathered look and tumbled to smooth and shiny. The bird's nest hangs from an antiqued copper chain that measures 18-inches and closes with a claw clasp and handmade link embellished with a matching gold stone bead. *This item is a LIMITED EDITION piece of the Fall 2010 collection!

My favorite apple recipe is this Crustless Apple Pie (it's so simple but delicious, the topping tastes like snickerdoodles).
ReplyDeleteCrustless Apple Pie
prep time about 15 minutes, bake time 45 minutes.
5 or 6 apples, (I use Granny Smith) cut into wedges about 1/4" thick
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar (light brown)
3/4 cup butter, melted and cooled
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350º.
Lay the sliced apples in the pie pan - it should be about 2/3 to 3/4 full. Sprinkle the tablespoons of cinnamon and sugar on top.
In a small mixing bowl, mix the flour, sugar, butter, vanilla, and salt. This mixture will be thick like cookie dough and so put the "crumbles" on top of the apples, covering the top.
Bake for about 45 minutes

ReplyDeleteIn honor of the Apple Pie Oatmeal recipe...
ReplyDeletePumpkin Pie Oatmeal
Ingredients:
* 2 cups quick or old-fashioned oats
* 3 cups fat-free milk
* 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
* 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
* 1/8 tsp cinnamon
* 1 tbsp raisins
* Brown sugar to taste
Preparation:
Place oatmeal in a microwave-safe bowl and stir in milk. Microwave on high for 2-3 minutes. Remove from microwave and stir in pumpkin puree, spice and cinnamon. Heat for 40-60 seconds, or until heated through. Stir in raisins. Sweeten with brown sugar if necessary and enjoy.
Stovetop method
Bring milk to a boil in a medium saucepan. Stir in oats and cook on a medium heat for about 5 minutes. Add pumpkin and spices and stir until heated through. Stir in raisins just before serving.
Serves 4.
My favorite peice is this:harvest moon necklace - because my very favorite neclace that I have now is my tree of life necklace that I won and this looks very much like it, only like you say for the Harvest moon - I see nothing spooky in it (though I do see how people could) I see fall, and pie, and bon fires in it. I love that.

My favorite apple recipe is honestly apple pie. I make my own crust (no shortening, only butter from a recipe I found on youtube, believe it or not), a ridiculous amount of unmeasured cinnamon, apples, lemon juice, sugar, and of course, topped with french vanilla ice cream. Drool.

My favorite apple recipe is apple crisp, but I just use this one from Food Network's website --it's not a family recipe or anything . . . =)
ReplyDeleteApple Crisp Ingredients
* 2/3 cup rolled oats
* 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
* 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
* 1/3 cup pecans, toasted, chopped
* Pinch fine salt
* 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into bits
* 4 medium baking apples, such as Braeburn, Rome, or Golden Delicious,
* Unsweetened whipped cream, optional
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly butter 6 (6-ounce) ramekins.
Whisk the oats, flour, brown sugar, pecans, and salt in a medium bowl. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until it is in even, pea-size pieces. Peel, core, and coarsely chop the apples and divide evenly among the ramekins. Scatter the crisp topping evenly over the fruit in each ramekin.
Transfer the ramekins to a baking sheet and cook until the fruit bubbles around the sides and the top is golden, about 30 minutes.
Preheat a broiler. Place the crisps about 4 inches from the broiler and cook until golden brown, about 30 seconds. Let cool about 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream, if using.
Enjoy!
