today starts the FINAL weekend before that dreaded,  oh-so-LONG national hockey league / nhl season begins.

sigh.

i've noted before: the boys @ the rikrak home are hockey nuts. fun hockey playing (that part i like!), 24 hour a day hockey updating, hockey news, hockey stats, hockey reading, hockey role-playing, hockey strategizing, hockey cheering,  hockey costumes, ... it's pretty much all hockey craziness, all the time....

(i know... that's NOT very canadian of me, is it?!)

in good news ... only 9 1/2 months til it's over!

have a glorious *last weekend without hockey* cuties!

these days it's home openers for Major League Baseball (go jays!) , an eye toward the National Hockey League playoffs, readying for the National Basketball Association finals, and sign-up time for every fun spring and summer sport around for the kiddies.

i know nothing, absolutely NOTHING about american style football. 

i think i've watched one whole game in my life.

but i sure do think that tom brady's cute!

i love his fun clothing style, that great smile.

back in the day, there was no athlete i crushed on more then that smiley cutie jesse barfield. great player, nice guy.  circa 1985,when i just started to be gaga for the toronto blue jays baseball team, i'm pretty sure there are dozens of diary pages, where i practiced my upcoming married moniker: mrs. kristal davis-barfield. 

has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

is it wrong to have a crush on a whole group of folks? like say *any professional football (aka soccer) league coach who wears scarves and looks tremendously dashing?* 

right.

during the 2010 world cup i came to realize that i had a sports crush on pretty much every major footballing team's stylish coach! wow. those suits? those fabulous scarves? (you know how i love a man in a scarf!) ... i ask: how can fans concentrate on the games? 

if i must choose just one i'll go with roberto mancini., current manager of the Manchester City team. he's such a cutie (and not quite so controversial as that other coaching cutie: jose mourinho!)

okay! so i've confessed! 

there are my choices for top 3 sports crushes! now... let's snuggle into our cozy sleeping bags, open another bag of sour cream & onion chips, crank up queen's *we are the champions!* , giggle & whisper and hear yours! can't wait!

now i've never curled in my life, sweeties.

but this classic winter sport has recently become part of our weekly life: little rikrak's become an avid little curler! {now i'm biased - but he's just great at it!}

part shuffleboard, part crokinole (my fave!) 

i love the symmetry on the rink. the glide & curl & colour of it all.

here we are!
we've made it!

it's almost the end of february and i whole-heartedly know that with the coming of march, winter will soon, SOON be a melting memory!

i know we're not out-of-the-snow-laden, blizzardy-storm-warning woods yet, but since it seems like every media outlet touts february as one of the hardest, most depressing months of the year i wanna congratulate you... you've made it! good heavens!

while i know my own province is battling a crazyville storm today, i thought we'd celebrate the hopefully-soon end to full-on wintry-ness with a little closing ceremonies fanfare to the end of the 2010 olympics, and a final cheer to our own 2010 handmade olympics! what a month! yay!

i'm super excited about march, great new things, snow melting, wonderful stuff ahead, the paralympics, and coming soon to a 4 season-time zone near you: SPRING!

happy weekend lovelies... i'm not a skier, but some pretty patterns & shapes on the ski hill for ya!

{ psst: can i tell you a bit of a secret? it's not a very popular sentiment here in my lovely homeland of Canada, but i am SOOOO excited about the NHL hockey season... almost being over! }

it's true. no offence to all of the hockey fans out there, but i love that soon... soon... there will be a ever-so-brief hockey break..... *sigh* ... and it will be a lovely wonderful summer... til hockey starts again!
