white space

............
welcome back wondersouls.

hope your time since we last met has been filled with wonderful community, great sharing & fresh new goodness. i'm so thankful mine has.

well we're already almost one month into our brand new year, and i wonder .... how are you doing?

after the promise the calendar brings of open-ended possibility each year - sometimes around mid-january i begin to feel the weight of not having left myself enough good, open, *white space* in life.

you know white space - the part of the page we choose to leave blank and unmarked:  those necessary, intentional, quiet, blank breathing spaces we all need to make room for in our daily lives? somehow i've filled up my pages again this year. alas.

so i ask:

ARE YOU LEAVING ENOUGH WHITE SPACE?

the good news is: (at least for me)
it's not too late, sweeties.
we can still choose to put that healthful space in our lives each day. here's to that.

slumber party {part 4}: who should play YOU in the movie-version of your life?

....................................
don't you just love a slumber party? comfy pjs, silly movies, telling your friends, old & new, your thoughts & crushes & dreams.... such fun! you can catchup with some of our other slumber party fun here: and for today's party question: who would you choose to play you in the movie version of your life?
....................................

well well well.
if there was going to be a movie-version of my life (imagine!)
i would certainly hope it would be
fun & dancey & kid-friendly!

so for today's question, i'm going to go with casting the young julie andrews
(aka the spirited maria von trapp in the 1965 technicolor movie the Sound of Music
& the crafty mary poppins in the delightful 1964 film Mary Poppins. )

i'm choosing young julie andrews for a couple of reasons.

1. as mary poppins & maria von trapp she seems fun & friendly & spiritied & and, let's be honest, a little feisty in a kid-friendly sorta way!

2. this way the movie version of my life would assuredly be a musical in the
style of the glorious 1960's!
(so that pivotal parts of the rikrak life would be sung and danced too! perfect!)

and
3. this way, i could cast YOUNG christopher plummer (aka captain von trapp!) or young dick van dyke (aka Bert the chimney sweep) as my swoon-worthy love interest, mr. rikrak! sigh!
(i do love those two actors in their 1960's prime!)

dick van dyke in mary poppins

christopher plummer in sound of music

although young julie andrews & i look nothing alike,
i think she would aptly pull it off!
(and she did craft outfits out of curtains in the sound of music! what great repurposing!)

....................................

okay! so i've confessed!
so there's my choice for who i'd choose to play me in the movie-version of my life!
now... let's snuggle into our cozy sleeping bags, open another bag of sour cream & onion chips,
turn on some cyndi lauper, giggle & whisper and hear yours!

who should play YOU?

my favourite things: cafe visits with dear friends

morning coffee photographic print by mariterecr

whether i'm home or away, one of my very favourite things in the world is to stroll to a cafe & have a little tea party or coffee visit with a dear friend. what a perfect thing for me that is! first, there's the sheer joy of a cafe: the sounds, the smells, the friendly, visit-y nature, a space made for visits and connections and sharing ideas... so grand, isn't it? and when we're @ a cafe i'm reminded how everyone else is there for similar wonderful sharings! what a great community! and then, there's the the added delight of the too rare indulgence of sitting with loved ones to share tales in a realtime, face to face manner - no phones or emails or distractions... just friends together! wow... it just hardly gets more fun then that when it comes to visiting, in my book!

so you can well imagine my glorious joy on this trip, that has been filled with cafe visits! yesterday my dear friend (and glorious host!) & i spent the day strolling around beautiful boston. we travelled from one cafe to another, basking in this extra-special cafe visiting time, to talk and talk and talk. oh how lovely. what a luxurious indulgence.. the visits punctuated by glorious gallery stops, beautiful parks and the chance to just stroll.... stroll.. stroll...

and the great thing about cafe visits... one needs not be on vacation! i love it just as much @ home with near friends. it's just such a treat, isn't it? but the added special joy of a cafe + a dear faraway friend = sheer joy for me! my dear friend and i share many things we love and that formula is certainly one of them!

so here's to the luxurious chance to visit with dear dear friends, and sip coffee and live the cafe life, ever-how briefly! have you indulged in it lately?
