i just love seeing what folks are collecting. i guess i kind of feel it tells us just a little bit about what inspires them, what they love, and what they choose to surround themselves with in their home. today, i'm delighted to present the next in the rikrak studio's collections series: 11 & a 1/2 quick questions with a wonderful artist on what they're collecting, (apart from their art supplies! ) you can also check out my new *the collectors* series on Etsy, based on these posts! hope you'll just love: antique animalia with Maid of Clay!

Who are you? Hi, I’m Felicia, my Etsy shop is MaidofClay. My Twitter (which I just realized I haven’t used in 6 months) profile describes me as a mud-slinging pyromaniac and cat-lover.
What are you collecting? They say that 3 of anything constitutes a collection. If that’s the case, what aren’t we collecting?! The constant has always been old oil paintings (pre-1920), small antique animal bronzes, and small antique picture frames - metal or micro-mosaic.
When did you start? My husband, Paul, and I started going to flea markets about 18 years ago, when we got married and were decorating our home.
How many do you have? We live in a small 1920’s Tudor house so we are limited on space - we have enough that a number of pieces are in boxes in the attic. We switch out now and then as the mood strikes.
Where do you find them? We have some great flea markets here in Southern California and we’ve gotten a lot of good finds from there.
What’s an interesting story behind one: We once found a great little antique bronze at a flea market but I couldn’t find any information on it even though I could tell it was a quality piece. One day, we strolling around the Metropolitan Museum in NY, turned the corner, and there was our bronze!! It was supposed to be mounted on a signed marble base which is why I couldn’t find out anything about the artist.
Why do you love them? I don’t know, they just make me happy. What’s that saying? Beauty feeds the soul.
Which one is your favourite and why? Being the inveterate cat fanatic that I am, it would have to be the cat pieces.
What else do you collect? Heintz sterling and bronze pieces, American Art Pottery - Weller and Rookwood mostly, monogrammed love tokens, antique enamel charms, just about anything that catches my eye.
