i just love this bright & brilliant shop! kootsac makes gorgeous reusable bulk food bags, filling our need for an alternative to plastic while we shop! she handcrafts bulk food bags, produce bags, totes and more. i met kootsac thru her inspiring work both the EcoEtsy Team and the TransCanadaEtsy Team, and i've long been inspired by her fabulous ideas, her genuine commitment to greening and eco-forward living, and her leadership in the handmade movement.

and here's kootsac's eco.tip:
.......................
"I believe that the simple act of growing a garden leads not only to the nourishment of our bodies and souls but also to a deep love and gratitude for the earth. This is the perfect 'groundwork' towards healing our precious planet.

I love this quote from Dylan Thomas: "The force that through the green fuse drives the flower, drives my green age."

  4. I love gardening and I try my best to be a responsible citizen so one of the things I do is spread coffee grounds, egg shells and raw veggies scraps in my flowerbeds instead of putting them in the trash. It's doubly good for the earth!

I also recycle my paper scraps from all of my card making projects.

  10. I'm a big fan of the Reusable produce bags - Kootsak's set of two natural cotton are nice, the silk ones are gorgeous! I have four reuseable produce bags already that I always take to the store... I get so many comments from shoppers and cashiers on them! And I don't feel like a jerk for using plastic bags anymore :) I can always use more, being vegetarian you can imagine we go through a lot of produce!

  11. I think my fave eco-tip would be to re-use. I know it's old news but it makes a big difference to the amount that goes out in the garbage, and saves money too!
We do a lot of preserves, re-using the jars rather than buying and recycling cans, which has a lot of processing and chemicals involved. And if we do buy canned food we reuse the cans for potting up seedlings, pencil holders, painting, etc.
Most things can have a second life when their first is over, you just need to think about it and repurpose things.

  16. Hi there,
First of all, I love your blog; always so happy & I think it's wonderful how you promote other artisans!
I had a look around Morgen's shop - how fabulous & what a fantastic idea.
I'm going to forward her link to both my daughter & step-daughter who are both eco conscious!
My husband & I make a point of looking at how we can become more eco "aware" everyday; no more plastic bottles or bags & more recycling. I also always make sure I use all of my paper scraps when making my cards - nothing goes to waste!
Thanks & have a super day!

  21. Favorite eco tip? We dilute Dr. Bronner's peppermint castille soap and re-use Method foam pump soap dispensers. Half water and half soap - or even less! -- foams up incredibly well! We're using less than half the soap we used to, castille soap is no-impact for the environment, and the scent is awesome!

  47. I like the natural cotton produce bags, because they are pretty and made of natural fiber and I'm still using plastic for veggies.

    ReplyDelete
  48. My favorite eco-tip of the year is: toilet cloth! Instead of toilet paper, I use organic hemp or cotton cloth squares and pieces cut out of my old underwear, storing them in a basket on the counter and a metal composting bin next to the toilet in one bathroom, and in a wet/dry diaper bag in the second bathroom. I also carry them in a mini wet/dry bag in my purse. It's better for my health, it's cheaper than toilet paper in the long run, and it's less wasteful. It's also kind of fun to choose the fabric, and it's definitely more comfortable.

  88. My favorite office tip is quite simple, actually. Phoenix is terrible about recycling...as far as making it available. Very few apartment complexes have bins for recycling, and the hospital I work at has very few recycling bins that are not very accessible. I decided to collect our bottles/cans in a bag in the office and take them home for recycling! People will usually choose to recycle something rather than throw it away if recycling is as accessible as trash :)

    krherning at yahoo dot com

  89. I like the large natural silk reusable food bag because it would be a great way to buy things like flour without using plastic bags (I've seen a lot of alternatives that are suitable for produce, grains, and pulses, but very few that would work for powders).

I like this set of bags because the color is great, and there are three different sizes. Since I like to buy a lot of my food in bulk, but find it really hard to reuse the thin plastic bags, this set would be the most helpful to me.
