fill-in-the-blanks interview with brilliant blogger saige wisdom

welcome to *brilliant bloggers*, nicies! it's a fun series with a fill-in-the-blank interview with some of our favourite super-bloggers from around the blogosphere that inspire each of us everyday with their writings! we all know that brilliant bloggers spend so much of their precious time crafting the perfect posts. so  i thought we'd give our fave wordsmiths a little break: i sent each nicey a page full of fill-in-the-blanks questions {my words in pink } ...  & they filled them in with their insights { their words in grey/gray! } . hope you'll enjoy fill-in-the-blanks with today's brilliant blogger: the inspiring handmaking-cheerleader, witty &amp wise mommy & blogging superstar, sara of saige wisdom.

sara kindly writes: I heart K and her amazing rikrak studio blog. In fact I love her blog even more than my own and I sometimes wonder if she'd be interested in a trade? {editor's note: *blush!*} You know if I threw in a bag of peanut butter m&m's and a promise to never contact her again? While that's not a joke, here's something that is... the fact that my name and brilliant are being used in the same blog post. I find it outrageously hysterical and since I always love a good belly laugh, I'm diving in head first.

I'm Sara K.

I am a true redhead {and have the emotional scars from childhood to prove it}. I'm also a sometimes impatient momma of two, a rarely doting wife & a social worker currently on a 12 month maternity leave.

I blog about the most random stuff ever over here at {SaigeWisdom}, but if I had to narrow it down I'd say mommyhood, stuff I heart (which usually includes Etsy finds) and truly embarrassing factoids about myself.

You might be surprised to hear that I don't own an Etsy shop, I just adore creativity and enjoy supporting crazy talent within the handmade community.

Beyond blogging, my perfect day would be sitting around the campfire
with the latest Emily Giffin novel (which is SO good by the way)
eating pirate cookies
talking about reality tv
listening to my children play or nap peacefully, whatever they prefer.

I'm obsessed with pinning funky nail polish applications even though I never, I repeat NEVER paint my fingernails.

Here's one of my favourite photos of myself!

I love this photo because I'm in Mexico, what's not to love?! no but seriously I love this photo because I LOVED being pregnant (yes I'm one of those) and my legs & arms look slimmer than usual... the cankles are a different story.

I just finished 8 long months with a crying baby plus another 4 with a baby who thinks he's a mini-stuntman
and just started feeling like my old self again
I'm in the middle of home & self improvements.

I love making people feel good about themselves in any way possible.

Everything makes me cry (I'm pretty sure my tear ducts are broken) and Jason Stathom makes me weak in the knees.

A word I love to avoid is "blogger"... I mean is that not the most ridiculous sounding word ever? I dislike it so much that I've adopted "bloggess" and "blogette" as suitable alternatives.

I wish I could dedicated a solid 9 hours per week to blogging

I began blogging to capture 365 days of moments following Saige's 1st birthday (I had every intention of turning my posts into an extension of her baby book) and now I blog for connection and a creative outlet.

It amazes me about blogging that some people can actually quit their day jobs and make a living at this blogging gig... talk about dream job.

My 3 tips to a great blog would be:

Be genuine.
Use a font that's legible.
Reply to comments (like Miss RikRak here does).

Gosh! It's challenging blogging when *poof* that ahh-mazing post you mentally wrote in the shower is suddenly forgotten or when you finally get time alone with your keyboard and you realize that all inspiration has left the building.

But fear not, I just move onto my other favourite past-times (i) Dexter watching... only 3 more seasons to go and I'll be caught up with the rest of the world or (ii) trolling Etsy... believe it or not I was making a treasury when I went into labour with Gabriel, true story.

One of my most vulnerable blog posts I've ever written is this one on barely surviving motherhood.

I spend an embarrassing amount of time reading other blogs

I love the a & b stories because Adriane has style, class and one amazingly talented paintbrush.

and I can't resist Lindsay Gee because she's freaking ha-larious and one helluva photographer. I got to meet her in real life and this blooper video is Miss Lindsay to a "T" or should I say "Gee"?

and of course the Urbanwalls blog is a daily read thanks to Danielle's Etsy eye candy; it's like chicken soup for my mood board loving soul.

One thing I wish I would have learned sooner in bloggyville is that programs like picmonkey.com exist for a reason and using the 'copy URL' to upload photos is a HUGE time saver.

And don't worry if I vanish off the face of the internet for a couple days weeks, I always find my way back.

My favourite part of blogging is meeting kindred spirits... I finally feel normal for mentally stylizing photo shoots instead of sleeping or planning elaborate birthday parties for toddlers who care only about the cake.

However I could do without the 'look at all the cool stuff I picked up at Target and/or Ikea' posts. I'm Canadian and don't live in or around a big city so not only do we not have Target (yet), but the closest Ikea is like a 5 hour drive away... thanks for letting me know what I'm missing out on :P

Something  EPIC that's  happening on my blog these days is the MASSIVE home renovation at casa de Knol. My husband (Trev-bob) and I are transforming our 2 bed, 1 bath bungalow into a 4 bed, 2 bath abode and we're doing it all in our 'spare time'... before the snow flies. You better believe I'm scouring Etsy for some design inspiration and must-have decor (and maybe 1 or  2  ten cutesy items for the kids).

sara k / saige wisdom

...............

thanks ever-so-much, sara.
you're amazing.
thanks for sharing your wonderful & wise tips, ideas and insights, cutie.
as you can guess, i'm a great fan of this amazing soul, saige wisdom. she's a genuine wonderwoman who's kind heart & hilarious reflections bring abundant joy to everyday living. we're so thankful for you, sweetie!

a giveaway with brilliant blogger jessika hepburn

it's a fun new series on the blog, nicies! a fill-in-the-blank interview with some of our favourite super-bloggers from around the blogosphere that inspire each of us everyday with their writings! i sent each nicey a page full of fill-in-the-blanks questions { my words in blue } ...  & they filled them in with their insights { their words in grey! } hope you'll enjoy fill-in-the-blanks with today's brilliant blogger: the inspiring handmaking-cheerleader, designer, mommy & blogging superstar, jessika of oh my! handmade {one of my very favourite blogs!}  { AND ... read on to see how you can WIN an amazing advertising & PR package for your indie business, too!}
 ..................
Hello lovely RikRak readers

I'm Jessika Hepburn, editor of Oh My! Handmade and I am so excited to be featured on RikRak, one of my favourite Canadian blogs.
I am an artist & a designer & a mama to two beautiful little girls, Ila Elizabeth and Sela Dae.

I blog about all things handmade and wonderful along with my team of over 20 monthly and guest contributors at Oh My! Handmade.

{You might be surprised to hear that I moved to Halifax from a tiny island rainforest utopia called Sointula in northern BC. Sointula means "place of harmony" in Finnish and is the only place in North America where orca come out of the water to rub themselves on the beach. Founded by Finnish utopian socialists in 1901 it is home to the oldest cooperative in Canada. When we lived there I ran the non-profit resource centre + a cooperative preschool.}

Beyond blogging, my  perfect
day would be :  crafting with my girlfriends (who are spread all over the world now) , eating fabulous cupcakes, talking about life,  listening to our children's laughter as they run wild, playing together with handmade toys made by mama's hands.

I'm
happiest when I am working with others to create something wonderful. Or when I am home alone crafting-it's split 50/50!

Here's my favourite photo of myself (see top of interview).
I love this photo because it's the ONLY recent photo of myself where I'm not hugely pregnant or holding a baby. Also, I am in front of one of my Nana's hand-dyed silk tapestries. She was an incredible artist & woman + her love of colour and fibre is one of my biggest inspirations.

I just finished
making a bouquet of felt flowers for a Spring Flowers tutorial on Oh My! Handmade in April and just started building a personal website for my design & consultation business. I'm in the middle of planning a kitchen reno + massive spring cleaning.

I love making  too many things! But I am really inspired by wool & fibre, vintage fabrics, pen & ink & paper, creating with my computer... oh and food-I love making elaborate cakes & meals.
Crafting makes me able to let go of the never ending list of things I need to get done  & cooking/baking makes me happy no matter what else is going on.

A word I love to
overuse is lovely, it is like a compulsion.

I
am amazed by how much I enjoy blogging!

The
community is so supportive  and the creativity of it constantly amazes & inspires me!

I began blogging
when I took over Oh My! Handmade from Sara Tams of sarah+abraham and now I blog because I love it so much!

It amazes about blogging that
it's so easy to make new friends I adore and build community with people all over the world!

My 3 tips to a great blog would be:
Originality, excellent content & creativity.

Gosh! It's challenging blogging when
there just aren't enough hours in the day!
But fear not, I just
chose to let go of some of the other work in my life that wasn't fulfilling me. Plus I stay up late & drink lots of strong coffee!

One of my absolute favourite blog posts I've ever written is this one on Copycats & Copyright: Keeping Our Handmade Community Safe . I am loving all our Handmade Ethics  posts & how the comments have shown that readers are loving it too!
I am so inspired reading other blogs.

I love the
Scoutie Girl blog because Tara & her contributors are filling the world with the ethics & ideas I have lived by for a long time. We can create a better world through living our creative dreams and supporting each other-it's that simple!

and I
adore the Pikaland blog because it's like an online art gallery filled with innovation & new artists to fall in love with.

and of course the
RikRak blog is fabulous because it's so filled with heart, kindness & handmade goodness. {editor's note: many thanks, wonderwoman. i feel exactly the same about your fabulous blog!}

One thing I wish I had learned sooner in bloggyville is that
it is SO easy to make friends & connections that are fulfilling not just professionally but personally.

My favourite part of blogging is
the creativity & kindness of
the community, hands down.

However, I could do without hearing so much about copying/plagiarism in the handmade community especially by big business! It makes me really angry & sad, but I know we can find ways to protect ourselves & each other.

Something
exciting  happening on my blog these days is our Twitter Tea Party! 2 hours of chatting about whatever our theme is + work/life with my followers who all just awesome. It's a good time & you're invited! Check it out here.

a giveaway with brilliant blogger: anna of *in honor of design*

it's a fun new series on the blog, nicies! a fill-in-the-blank interview with some of our favourite super-bloggers from around the blogosphere that inspire each of us everyday with their writings! we all know that brilliant bloggers spend so much of their precious time crafting the perfect posts. so  i thought we'd give our fave wordsmiths a little break: i sent each nicey a page full of fill-in-the-blanks questions { my words in blue } ...  & they filled them in with their insights { their words in grey/gray! } . hope you'll enjoy fill-in-the-blanks with today's brilliant blogger: the inspiring handmaking-cheerleader, designer, mommy & blogging superstar, anna of *in honor of design*  { AND ... read on to see how you can WIN a gift certificate to her beautiful shop, too!}

.......................

.......................

Thanks so much for having me here at RikRak!

 I'm Anna.

I am a graphic designer, accessory designer, wife and momma.

I blog about  all things design, small business tips, even a little fashion over here at *in honor of design.*

 {You might be surprised to hear that I have absolutely zero sense of direction on the road! The first year I lived in Atlanta I got lost going to the grocery store and just about every where else until I finally got used to the area!}

Beyond blogging, my  perfect day waking up back home in the south, with my hubby and babies, eating breakfast on the back porch, talking about our children and making dream travel plans, listening to U2 live (hey a girl can dream right?)

I'm kind of an emotional preggo mama these days with the tendency to cry over commercials and stories about new babies.

.......................

Here's one of my favourite photos of myself!

I love this photo because it shows the joy this little boy brings me in my day to day life,

I just finished designing and styling my Spring Accessory Line, and just started tips for small business series on the blog. I'm in the middle of designing the Spring issue of Radiant magazine, so life is full of adventures right now!

I love making new friends, meeting new people, keeping in touch with old ones

My husband makes me laugh harder than anyone I know and my son makes me happy to be alive

A word I love to use is  lovely!

And I may have made up the words fantabulous and fluidity?!

.......................
I am thankful for the amazing people and opportunities I have come across through blogging.

The creativity and the inspiration aspect of it completely motivate me!

I began blogging to document and share design inspiration and now I blog for those reasons and many more!

It amazes about blogging that it is such a strong and supportive community! I have learned so much from other bloggers

My 3 tips to a great blog would be:

originality
consistency in themes
communication with readers

Gosh! It's challenging blogging when I could spend hours on posts and reading other blogs, but have only a limited time each day to do so.
But fear not, I just have become more efficient with my time

One of my most memorable blog posts I've ever written is this one on a significant mile marker. I like how its a great reminder for me to appreciate the blessings in my life and remember littlest of your dreams can be made possible through God's grace.

I  look forward to my morning coffee and reading other blogs.

I love the Oh Joy! blog because it's innovative and full of unique finds.

and I  absolutely adore the Creature Comforts  blog because it's always inspirational and full of creative content.

and of course the Daybook blog is my favorite fashionista blogger because it's fun to read,  has tons of outfit inspiration, and Sydney is an IHOD accessory model.

One thing I wish I had learned sooner in bloggyville is that you don't have to have a certain amount of posts per week or re-invent the wheel to present the right content.

and don't worry: if you don't have a large amount of followers. Focus on creating your own style and offering good content, the readers will come!

My favourite part of blogging is providing a resourceful place for readers and getting to know who they are

However, I could do without the many distractions that come with blogging that want to eat up your time

Something fun happening on my blog these days is the color files.
