confession: i'm a lover of shapes.
squares + circles + geometric forms of all kinds are my-kinda-thing.

today we visit 3squares at home to see her yummy collection of cookbooks.

i just love seeing what folks are collecting. i guess i kind of feel it tells us just a little bit about what inspires them, what they love, and what they choose to surround themselves with in their home. today, i'm delighted to present the next in the rikrak studio's collections series: 11 & a 1/2 quick questions with a wonderful artist on what they're collecting, (apart from their art supplies! ) you can also check out my new *the collectors* series on Etsy, based on these posts! hope you'll just love:cookbooks with artist Jean of 3squares!

what (are you collecting) : I collect cookbooks, old and new.
when (did you start) : Oh, probably when I was about 15 or 16. When I discovered I love to cook and realized Seventeen magazine recipes were not the extent of what I could do.
how (many do you have?) : I just asked my daughter to count them, and I have 132.
where (do you find them) : New and used bookstores, antique shops, flea markets, restaurants. And Santa has left many for me under the tree.
where (do you keep them) : Our little living room is too small for furniture, so instead it holds shelves full of my cookbooks and other reading material. There are always a few in my kitchen, and one or two on my nightstand for evening reading.
what (‘s a crazy/interesting story behind one): About 10 years ago I went to a conference in New Orleans. The sponsors set up amazing events for us in the evenings – fabulous parties, a show for attendees at The House of Blues with B.B. King performing, and a private dinner at Paul Prudhomme’s restaurant. The chef had planned to be there, but unfortunately an emergency called him away. He generously left for each of us an autographed copy of his cookbook. And the meal, of course, was incredible!
what(piece would you like to add): Mastering the Art of French Cooking by the master herself, Julia Child.
why (do you love them) : Something about cooking is just good for my soul, but I need a plan of some sort when I work. A good cookbook gives me a foundation to work from and inspires me to try something new.
which (one is your favourite) & why : My favorites are the cookbooks for kids. Cooking with my daughter is a joy and she says (today anyway) that she would like to be a professional chef. I’m so proud!
what (else do you collect) : Books of all kinds. My mother gave me an old set of the complete works of Charles Dickens which her father gave to her, and I cherish them. I must admit I haven’t read one yet, they seem so delicate. I’m saving them for a rainy day.
