.............

we just love Holidaying movies here at our home. and many a decembery-late night sewing stockings at the rikrak home in the past few years has involved a holidaying movie playing festively in the background!

so here are my very favourite 3...

..............

rudolph the red nosed reindeer: i just love this tv delight! i can safely say that along with anything muppets, the cute cute artistry of rudolph (and those funfun eyes!) wonderfully influenced my own drawing and animal design for years to come! and those hilarious little characters in that movie! and those funny funny sound-effects? love them!

..............

white christmas: the singing, the dancing, the bing crosby everything. i love the pacing and style of this film. and who wouldn't want to twirl around in one of those gorgeous dancing red velvet gowns?!

..............

a charlie brown Christmas: the music. the music. the music of this film is certainly my very favourite. it plays on constant rotation in our holidaying home. so yay to vince guaraldi, snoopy, that lovable cast, and that sweet little Christmas tree. love!
..............

okay! so i've confessed!

so there are my choices for my top 3 holiday movies! now... let's snuggle into our cozy sleeping bags, open another bag of sour cream & onion chips, crank up the band aid *do they know it's Christmas* cassette, giggle & whisper and hear yours!

  1. I love this topic! My first favourite is definitely
How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I used to be very scared of the Grinch when I was little. I was all 'why is there a green monster living in the mountain!!' But now when I watch it I just cry laughing at his little dog. My kid likes to play You're A Mean One on her clarinet.

2nd fave goes to Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. I think anyone who likes this movie does because it's simply amazing in every way, a true masterpiece.

3rd fave is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I enjoy ridiculous comedies very much. My friend and I get together every year and make truffles and have a few drinks while this movie plays in the background. I can't decide if my fave scene is the turkey exploding or the warp speed toboggan :)

  6. I love this! What a great slumber party topic. :)

My absolute favorites would have to be...

    1. 'It's A Wonderful Life' ... Love Jimmy Stewart!

    2. 'The Snowman' My sisters and I loved watching it when we were little! It brings back so many memories...

    3. 'Prancer' Another favorite from my childhood. Although now that I think of it, it was a bit dark for 5 and 6 year olds.

I do love the claymation movies too!! :)

  9. Well, I haven't watched TV in over 5 years, but I'll give it a shot.
    1. I used to love "A Christmas Story" in all it's narrative goodness.
    2. Dr. Suess animation of "How A Grinch Stole Christmas" - the newer one is just annoying.
    3. Hmm, I liked all the claymation, but after googling 'christmas movies' to refresh my memory, I'd have to say "Scrooged" with Bill Murray. That movie is as addicting as "Coming to America!" Can't. Look. Away.

  10. I'm so ready for this post!!! I just finished watching my all time favorite..ok, 2nd favorite( still #1 Charlie) Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carole. It was made for TV back in the 60's and it is fabulous with great animation, story and wonderful music. The scene were Scrooge sees himself as a lonely boy in boarding school, left alone for the holidays..he sings.."A hand for each hand was planned for the world Why don't my fingers reach? Millions of grains of sand in the world Why's mine a lonely beach?...Makes me cry..but the end is a funny happy ending as we all know the story. You can still buy this at Amazon for less that $7 ..worth every penny. The best part is the great voice of Jim Backus as Mr. Magoo. Can you tell I love this movie?
    #2..It's a Wonderful Life..favorite quote
George Bailey: What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That's a pretty good idea. I'll give you the moon, Mary.
Mary: I'll take it. Then what?
George Bailey: Well, then you can swallow it, and it'll all dissolve, see... and the moonbeams would shoot out of your fingers and your toes and the ends of your hair
Who would not want a man to say that to us?
#3..Love Actually..not your typical Christmas movie..but full of quirky festive love
Favorite Quote.Karen(mom): So what's this big news, then?
Daisy(daughter): [excited] We've been given our parts in the nativity play. And I'm the lobster.
    Karen: The lobster?
    Daisy: Yeah!
    Karen: In the nativity play?
    Daisy: [beaming] Yeah, *first* lobster.
Karen: There was more than one lobster present at the birth of Jesus?
    Daisy: Duh.
See what I mean about quirky, funny..love it!
this is a fun posting..look forwar to reading all the others favs.

  11. I don't like White Christmas nearly as much as I like Holiday Inn. Just the idea - of an inn - is so warm and fuzzy for me.

That said, I'm with you on Rudolph and Charlie Brown - they are both short so can I group them as one?

My husband also surprised me with the California Raisin's Claymation Christmas. That one really struck a chord with me when I was little, and now I just think it's goofy but I still love it.

But the Number 1 favorite around here is Christmas Vacation. It makes me laugh every year.

    #2 Polar Express
#3 How the Grinch Stole Christmas
