the 2011 handmade WORLD CUP!

oh dear! it seems that as with Blogger's mammoth site crash yesterday, almost ALL comments for this post (i.e. votes) were taken down with it! eek! so if you can, please RE-CAST your votes. so sorry nicies! technical glitches ... alas!

with the great success of the rikrak studio 2011 handmade olympics, i thought it was high-time we celebrated the amazing handmaking world again! so today, i launch ... the 2nd annual 2011 handmade WORLD CUP: a superfun & friendly celebration cheering on the world of handmade while our football/soccer counterparts thrill the world at that *other* world cup! {it's the women's turn this year in germany!}

i hope it will increase exposure to ALL of the amazing handmaking nations out there! yay world! it's great great exposure for your country's fabulous handmakers, so spread the word (ps: i'll be featuring examples of each nation's work for rounds D, E and F!)

our world cup will work like this: from may 11th to june 6th, each of you will have the opportunity to CHEER on (i.e VOTE for!) your favourite handmaking countries!

last year's winning handmaking country was the formidable SOUTH AFRICA, defeating the fabulous SPAIN in a gruelingly wonderful final match! the random entry winner was able to choose from the plethora of gorgeous SOUTH AFRICAN handmade etsy shops in which to spend her fabulous winnings! {congrats to skinny laminx, the chosen south african shop!}

so who will WIN in 2011?
there will be 5 rounds of voting.
each round (except the final!) will have various matches in which you can cast your vote! the teams with the higher number of votes in each matchup will proceed to the next round!

the PRIZE is a $30 shopping spree in the Etsy shop of your choice, FROM the winning country! so for example: if south africa wins the 2011 handmade world cup voting, then the winning entry will spend their $30 prize in ANY south african-based Etsy shop! :) (donated by me, rikrak! :)

woohoo!! each ROUND will be open for voting for approx. 4-5 days. so be sure to get your votes in.

the total number of entries will be the cumulative ballots from round 1+ round 2 + round 3 + round 4 + round 5!

NOTE: you do NOT need to have voted for the winning team to win. it will be a random draw of all entries!

:: about the teams :: the teams were chosen based on the following criteria:

countries that are part of the 2011 women's world cup and/or
have an etsy team registered with more then 10 active shops
have a strong enough handmaking presence on etsy when *shop local* is searched
have a strong handmaking following online, as determined by me! :)
